Q: I have an existing website, how do I move it over to MicroBrand hosting?
A: Depending on the website, we’ll likely do the move for you. Moving a website over needs careful planning to ensure existing services, emails, technologies and links are retained where possible and/or strategically handled at ever step of the way.
Q: Is there a fee for moving over a website?
A: Typically we’ll do this for you at no charge, though it does vary from site to site. Get in touch and we’ll discuss the specifics of your website. Most small business websites can be moved free of charge however.
Q: You don't list every detail about your hosting packages. Can I find out more?
A: We are very much geared toward the type of client who doesn’t want to know about industry buzzwords, hard drive details, etc. Our clients typically want to see great responsiveness from their website, minimal/no downtime, reliable services, and a hassle-free approach. That’s what we provide. However, if you feel you just need to know something we haven’t covered on our package pages, by all means ask away!
Q: I don't want to know every detail, but what about the basics?
A: The basics and quite a bit beyond, of our hosting packages are outlined in our
hosting package section here. You can see even more details by clicking on each package.
Q: How do you bill me?
A: At this time, we invoice you in advance for the year of hosting. We do this for convenience all around. You’re able to call in a credit card or pay by cheque. In the future we’ll have online billing and will update this section accordingly.
Q: I have multiple websites, do I need to pay for multiple hosting accounts?
A: We offer two types of hosting account. One is geared toward single-site requirements, and the other toward multiple sites. If you have two websites, it’s less expensive to have two separate accounts, but if you have 3-5 sites, it’s better to choose the multi-site hosting package. If you have over 5 websites,
get in touch and we’ll figure out the best approach.
Q: Where is the hosting physically located?
A: Not enough people ask this important question, thank you! Eastern Canada is where our primary server is located. If you subscribe to a backup service from MicroBrand, we’ll backup your data and store it on a cloud server with network locations in Canada, USA and Europe. Geographical separation is important to data integrity should something go wrong in one location.
Q: I don't want to have to deal with any of this stuff. Can you take care of all of it?
Q: What about my domain name?
A: We can add it to our account and renew annually for you if you prefer. You maintain ownership of it.
Q: My site is WordPress, can you host it?
A: Absolutely! We’re WordPress fans, lovers and experts.
Q: What about emails?
A: Email addresses are included with your hosting account. By default we include 10 addresses with your account, or 25 for the multi-site package. If you require more this isn’t a deal breaker. Just let us know what you need and we’ll work with you on it.
Q: Will you setup my email accounts on my computer, phone, tablet, etc?
A: The quick answer here is no. But the longer answer is: By default on-site support is not included in our hosting. That said, we take pride in being local and we’re happy to help get things rolling. At times there will be support fees that we’ll discuss in advance.
Q: How am I supposed to setup my emails then?
A: On the right side of this page you’ll
see email settings in a downloadable PDF. This has everything you’ll need to get your email client (Outlook, Mail, Thunderbird etc) communicating with your hosting account.
Q: Help!! My email won't work, my site won't load!! It was fine yesterday!!
A: You likely triggered a block on the firewall of the server. A hassle from time to time indeed, and we’re sorry for that, however we take security seriously around here and would rather err on the side of caution about things. The good news is that it’s an easy fix.
Q: What would have triggered a firewall block?
A: A loaded question for sure, as it changes all the time as server security software gets updated and becomes more intelligent about current hacks and tricks used by malicious people/scripts. Typically though it will be to do with an IP address having a poor reputation (certain public networks for example) or too many connections in too short a period of time, or the biggest cause of all is incorrect login attempts. Know your passwords, keep them secure.
